Technical Support for the Romanian authorities to implement the eID Investment under RRP
The European commission aimed to accelerate the implementation of electronic identity (eID) cards in Romania, focusing on enhancing digital service access.
Context
Part of the 2030 Digital Compass initiative, this project supported the digital transition goals outlined in Romania's Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP). Challenges included public reluctance, lack of IT infrastructure, and the need for user-centric public services. The project specifically focused on integrating eID cards to facilitate digital interactions with public and private entities.
Support Delivered
The support involved analysing the current state of public services and defining digital transformation strategies. Key activities included developing a requirements catalogue, prioritizing services for digitalization, and creating a concrete action plan. Collaborations were pursued to ensure services met the needs of diverse user groups and encouraged eID card adoption.
Result achieved
The project delivered a strategic roadmap for digital public service deployment, aligning with RRP milestones. Benefits include increased eID card uptake, enhanced digital service accessibility, and user engagement strategies. By focusing on these digital transformations, the project provides a model for addressing eID challenges, aiming for long-term systemic improvements in Romania.
