Supporting the implementation of the greek national industrial strategy
The project prepared action plans for Greece to invest in industrial sectors with growth/jobs potential (healthcare, pharmaceuticals, food, construction materials). It also proposed a reform on intellectual property (IP) rights to facilitate the registration of IP rights, especially for SMEs. The beneficiaries were:
- General Secretariat for Industry, Ministry of Development and Investments,
- General Secretariat for Employment - Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs,
- General Secretariat for Vocational Education, Training, Lifelong Learning and Youth - Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, Public Employment Service,
- Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation.
Context
Greece needed sectoral action plans, as well as a simplification of IP registration.
Support delivered
The project analysed industrial ecosystems and developed three sectoral action plans for the selected industrial ecosystems. It also developed a governance mechanism for effective policy design and implementation in industrial sectors and IP management.
The project also mapped the training and education needs of workers and businesses in the industrial sector, identified skills gaps and relevant trends across selected sectors within the Greek Industry, and provided recommendations to facilitate the development of industry-related skills and competences of the workforce.
Results achieved
The project contributed to the implementation of the National Industrial Strategy (NIS). The National Industrial Committee (NIC) which was formulated for the development of the Industrial Strategy is expected to have a key role.
As regards IP rights, the project contributed to the simplification of the registration procedures, thus boosting the use of IP rights for the development of businesses, especially SMEs, and improved the governance framework.
The project mapped the training and education needs of workers and businesses in the industrial sector, identify gaps and provide recommendations, thus helping workers and entrepreneurs in the digital transition.
