Development of entrepreneurial, innovative and digital environment in Stara Zagora
The European Commission contributes to a structural reform in the areas of entrepreneurship, innovation and digitisation (EID) in the Stara Zagora District, targeting at the sustainable development of the EID ecosystem.
The main beneficiary is the Municipality of Stara Zagora and the project funding is provided by the European Union via the Technical Support Instrument.
Context
In its twin transition (both in view of sustainability and digitalisation), the Stara Zagora District needs to promote its economic activities and restructure the local business environment into high-technology production and knowledge-intensive services. The District needs to develop an EID ecosystem and leverage on trade/ investment attraction opportunities as a way to mitigate demographic trends and keep its young population.
The project is linked to a key EU policy priority - Developing a strong and vibrant economic base and aims to assist the district and local authorities in improving their capacity to design, develop and implement policies.
Support delivered
The support provided to the Stara Zagora District will be performed through execution of the following activities:
- Preparation of an as-is and gap analysis on the EID state
- Development of a strategy and action plan for the improvement of EID in the District with participation of a wide group of relevant stakeholders – public administrations, business, financial, educational and non-government organisations
- Identification of inward investment/trade opportunities and organisation of promotional activities
- Capacity building of local/district authorities and critical economic partners/operators.
The support is being delivered from November 2023 to February 2025.
Results achieved
Provided that such work/recommendations resulting from the Project will be followed-up by Bulgaria at regulatory, institutional, and operational level, the support delivered is expected to result in the following outcomes:
- Outcome 1: More effective policy for entrepreneurship, innovation and digitisation in the Stara Zagora District
- Outcome 2: Improved capacity of authorities and stakeholders to boost the economic and innovative activity in the Stara Zagora District.
