Investment in soft mobility (National Plan of Cycle Path) (Mission 2 – Component 2: Investment 4.1)
Italy’s Recovery and resilience plan provides for the construction of at least 565 km of cycling lanes in metropolitan areas and at least 746 km of tourist cycle paths. Cycle paths will facilitate first-mile and last-mile commuting – connecting locations in metropolitan areas to nearby railway or metro nodes, or universities to nearby railway or metro nodes. The eligible tourist cycle paths are defined in Law no. 208 of 28 December 2015.
The investment is financed by Italy’s Recovery and Resilience plan by EUR 466.6 million.
As part of this investment, the Lungomare A. Vespucci cycle path extends the existing Lungomare Toscanelli route, linking the Roma Tre University’s Sea Engineering faculty, Cristoforo Colombo Station, and the historic archaeological area of Via della Villa di Plinio. As part of the NRRP, which supports cycling networks in 40 Italian cities, Roma Capitale is pursuing a multi-year plan to promote bicycles as a key mode of transport. The initiative aims to enhance accessibility and safety, encouraging more daily cycling across the city.
This project is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Facility with EUR 1.192.381,53.
