The project aims to modernise Madrid Chamartín–Clara Campoamor station, enhancing its capacity, accessibility and intermodality as a key railway hub in Spain. A central component is the construction of a new high-speed rail underground passage (Paso Inferior de Alta Velocidad), with a surface of 2,300 m², connecting all high-speed platforms with the Cercanías and Metro networks.
The investment amounts to EUR 209 million under the Recovery and Resilience Facility, as part of a broader transformation plan exceeding EUR 540 million. The project includes multiple interventions: (i) the new underground passage connecting high-speed services with urban transport; (ii) the expansion of the main station hall to increase capacity and passenger comfort; (iii) the extension and modernisation of high-speed infrastructure, including new access ramps (“fingers”) and additional tracks; and (iv) improvements to Cercanías facilities and intermodal connections.
The project is currently under phased implementation, with key components such as the underground access already operational. Once completed, it will significantly increase passenger capacity, improve travel experience and reinforce the role of Chamartín as a modern, sustainable and accessible transport hub.
