Plan for the extension of full-time (Mission 4 – Component 1 - Investment 1.2)
Italy’s Recovery and Resilience Plan provides for the extension of school time, in order to increase the educational offer of schools and make them open and available to the territory beyond school hours. The measure envisages the construction or renovation of canteen spaces for at least 1 000 structures to allow for the extension of school time. Extended schooling hours are expected to have a positive impact on the fight against early school leaving.
The investment is financed by Italy’s Recovery and Resilience plan by EUR 1 billion.
As part of this investment, the project involves the construction of a new building to be used as a school cafeteria, located within the existing school complex in the northeast area between Block “A” (classrooms and preschool canteen) and Block “E” (gymnasium). The new structure will be attached to the gym building, with three open sides and one blind wall. This location was chosen following on-site surveys and consultations with the municipal administration, as it was identified as the most feasible and functional area for construction.
The cafeteria will feature large full-height openings on the west side, facing the garden, to create visual and functional continuity between indoor and outdoor learning spaces. The architectural design aims to harmonize with the surrounding environment, combining modern materials and technologies to ensure high environmental comfort and sustainability.
Key design goals include:
- Environmental quality: integration with outdoor spaces and acoustic comfort
- Indoor comfort: high acoustic and thermal insulation, use of eco-friendly and low-maintenance materials
- Resource efficiency: reduction of energy demand through high-performance building envelopes, heat pumps for heating, and energy-efficient lighting systems
- Emission reduction: use of heat pumps to avoid combustion-based emissions
- Renewable energy use: installation of photovoltaic panels on the roof to supply energy from renewable sources in compliance with regulations.
