The reform addresses flood risk, which is one of the most important risks related to climate change for Slovenia, as demonstrated by the catastrophic floods in August 2023.
With the entry into force of the new Flood Risk Management Plan 2023-2027, adopted by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia on 30 March 2023, Slovenia is accelerating the planning and implementation of measures and projects that contribute at local regional and national level to preventing the consequences of floods and promoting in particular nature-based solutions.
The main purpose of the Flood Risk Reduction Plan is to reduce and manage flood risks, with the aim of reducing the adverse effects of floods on human health, the environment, cultural heritage and economic activities.
The Flood Risk Reduction Plan 2023-2027 contains 20 flood protection measures (construction and non-construction) for 86 areas of significant impact of floods addressing flood risk management comprehensively within 18 river basins.
