School building security and structural rehabilitation plan (Mission 4 – Component 1 - Investment 3.3).
Italy’s Recovery and Resilience Plan provides for climate recovery by enhancing school buildings’ safety and energy consumption. In particular, the measure aims to contribute to the improvement of energy classes and leading to lower consumption and CO2 emissions as well as to increase structural safety of buildings. Particular attention is paid to the most disadvantaged areas with the aim of tackling and eliminating economic and social imbalances.
The investment is financed by Italy’s Recovery and Resilience plan by EUR 4.4 billion.
The project regarding the maintenance work of the roof of part of the “Blaise Pascal “ High School’s building in Giaveno is part of this investment. The building consist of several section: Section A, built in early 1900s, dedicated to classrooms and administrative offices; sections B and C, made of reinforced concrete, built partially in situ and partially prefabricated, built in the period 1976 - 1978 and 1983-1986 respectively, dedicated to classrooms, gym and laboratories; Section D built in the period 1983-1986 dedicated to the gym.
Section B will be affected by the RRP-financed works, made necessary because rainwater infiltration occurred in several places, due to the age of the membrane made of bituminous sheathing.
