Renewable hydrogen and green ammonia production plant in Caspe (Zaragoza)

Project

The project aims to develop a large-scale renewable hydrogen and green ammonia production facility in Caspe (Zaragoza), contributing to the decarbonisation of industry and energy systems. The investment includes the construction of electrolysis capacity (around 200 MW), renewable energy generation plants, and associated infrastructure for hydrogen injection into the gas grid and ammonia transport.

The total investment amounts to approximately EUR 700 million, including EUR 15 million in funding under the Recovery and Resilience Facility (NextGenerationEU). The project is expected to produce up to 16,038 tonnes of renewable hydrogen and 89,796 tonnes of green ammonia annually.

The project is currently in the environmental permitting and planning phase, with ongoing administrative procedures and preparation of the final design. Construction is expected to start once all approvals are granted, with an estimated implementation period of around 18 months.
