Mission 5 – Component 2, Investment 4: -Investments in projects of urban regeneration, aimed at reducing situations of marginalization and social degradation

Italy’s Recovery and Resilience Plan provides for investments in urban regeneration, to reduce marginalization and social degradation as well as to improve the social and environmental context of urban centres.

The measure aims at supporting the reuse and re-functionalization of public areas and existing public building structures for purposes of public interest, and at improving the urban landscape through renovation of public buildings, with particular attention to the development of social, cultural, educational and didactic services, including sporting activities.

The investment is financed by Italy’s Recovery and Resilience plan by EUR 2 billion.

The project concerning the prequalification of the public areas near the church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is part of this investment.

The project is aimed the redevelopment of the area and the embellishment of the square in front of the church.

This will be achieved by removing the existing floor and installing a new floor in lava stone and white stone and creating a flower bed, also through the installation of 2 seats made with iron profiles with foot support made with lava stone block, a chair that follows the trend of the wall of the flower bed made with iron profiles fixed to the wall with appropriate brackets.

Also through the realization of two fountains, one with water and lights and one, smaller, to allow people to quench their thirst.

The fountains and the new containment walls of the flowerbed will be covered with beige travertine flooring.

In addition, new public
lighting by means of the installation of lighting fixtures such as step markers.

All the planned interventions will be implemented to give quality to the area and expand the urban furniture and vegetation, non-existent today, using materials, as much as possible, eco-sustainable.

As for the construction of the road network, which is the subject of intervention, which concerns the Via Michelangelo Buonarroti, Via Leonardo Da Vinci, Via Raffaello Sanzio, Via Tucidide, Via Plutarco and Via Alceo, all the pavement, obsolete and sometimes dangerous for the circulation of vehicles and pedestrians, including sidewalks, will be removed to ensure the installation of a new pavement with concrete self-locking of different colors, so as to create geometric shapes along the entire road network, will be of reference the realization already made of Via Aristotele. The intervention uses materials that have the requirements of durability, ductility, robustness and resilience of the works, with energy efficiency and safety and functionality of eco-sustainable plants, and as much as possible eco-sustainable.

The amount of NRRP funds allocated to this project amounts to EUR 998.990
