
Caput Mundi Next Generation EU for touristic great events (Mission 1, Component 3, Investment 4.3)
Italy’s Recovery and Resilience Plan increases the number of accessible tourist sites in Rome, creating valid and qualified tourist and cultural alternatives with respect to the crowded central areas, as well as increasing the use of digital technologies, enhance green areas and the sustainability of tourism. The investment envisages six lines of interventions:
1. “Roman Cultural Heritage for EU-Next Generation”, covering the regeneration and restoration of cultural and urban heritage and complexes of high historical-architectural value of the city of Rome;
2. “Jubilee paths” (from pagan to Christian Rome), targeted to the enhancement, safety, anti-seismic consolidation, restoration of places and buildings of historical interest and archaeological pathways;
3. #LaCittàCondivisa, covering the redevelopment of sites in peripheral areas;
4. #Mitingodiverde, covering interventions on parks, historical gardens, villas and fountains;
5. #Roma 4.0, covering the digitalization of cultural services and the development of apps for tourists;
6. #Amanotesa, aimed at increasing the supply of cultural offer to peripheries for social integration.
The investment is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Facility by EUR 500 million and includes this project.
The project for Villa Sciarra involves a conservative restoration aimed at recovering the architectural and landscape character of the park, along with enhancement works overseen by the Department for Environmental Protection. The planned activities include maintenance of paths and slopes, reconstruction of flowerbeds and walkways according to the original layout, planting of palm trees, installation of an irrigation system, vegetation redevelopment with lawns and flowering shrubs, upgrading of the aviary, and the creation of a new educational sensory garden in the area of Bastion VII. This project is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Facility with EUR 2128000. Given the historical significance of Villa Sciarra, the project adopts a conservative restoration approach aimed at recovering the architectural and landscape character of the park, alongside enhancement interventions. The initiative focuses on the landscape and vegetation redevelopment, coordinated by the Environmental Protection Department. The planned works include the maintenance of paths and escarpments adjacent to flowerbeds, the reconstruction of original paths and the creation of new flowerbeds based on historical layouts, and the planting of palm trees along Viale Giuseppe Wern and in front of the Casino Nobile. An irrigation system will be installed in areas with lawns, shrubs, and seasonal flowers. The vegetation redevelopment will also involve the replacement of turf and removal of cut tree trunks. Flowering shrubs will be planted in the flowerbeds surrounding the Casino Nobile. The project also includes the upgrading of the aviary and the restoration of the outdoor spaces of Bastion VII, where a new educational sensory garden will be created.
