RDI, research infrastructure and piloting – Promoting innovation and research infrastructure – National research infrastructures – Finnish Marine Research Infrastructure

  • Project

The Finnish Marine Research Infrastructure (FINMARI) combines all major components of the Finnish marine research community.

It is a distributed infrastructure network of field stations, research vessels and laboratory facilities, ferryboxes, fixed measurement platforms and buoys.

FINMARI represents all major partners conducting marine research and monitoring in Finland and the partner universities are responsible of marine university education in Finland.

FINMARI provides a unique hub for observational and experimental marine research facilities.

This project aims at bridging significant gaps in the present research infrastructure by acquisition of equipment and updating of instrument networks and systems, as well as initiating and maturing digitalisation and Open Access to data and services according to the strategic targets of FINMARI.

The concrete tasks are based on the “Grand Challenges” of the Baltic and European coastal seas, focusing on climate change and loss of biodiversity.
