The project aims to create the National Health Data Space (ENDS), a public digital infrastructure designed to enable secure, interoperable and privacy-preserving access to health data across Spain. It connects regional health systems through common protocols, facilitating data sharing for research, healthcare planning and innovation.
The initiative is supported by EUR 70 million under the Recovery and Resilience Facility, including EUR 28 million allocated to regional authorities to adapt their systems. It forms part of Spain’s broader strategy to develop sectoral data spaces and strengthen digital capabilities in healthcare.
The project is currently being deployed, with a focus on enabling advanced analytics and artificial intelligence applications. Once fully operational, it will enhance medical research, improve healthcare services and position Spain as a leading contributor to the European Health Data Space.
