A software solution based on blockchain technology was developed to track and analyse the circulation of selected medicines thus enabling prediction and prevention of drug shortages. Effective data management allows the healthcare system to respond promptly through emergency imports or by adjusting the Croatian Health Insurance Fund (HZZO) reimbursement list to include additional manufacturers. This helps ensuring medicine availability at the most favourable price, which is particularly important for oncology treatments that offer equal effectiveness at lower cost. Drug shortages, especially in oncology, increasingly burden patients and threaten the sustainability of the healthcare system. By using blockchain technology, the software ensures transparency of data together with protecting the privacy of patients.
