EVN Wärme GmbH operates a biomass district heating plant in Korneuburg (Lower Austria). The company is now planning to install a water-to-water heat pump at this location. The heat pump uses the river water of the Danube as a heat source and it is powered by green electricity.
The heat generated by the large heat pump is CO2-neutral and replaces natural gas. The heat pump is installed together with a large heat storage tank.
It is expected that with this project, 786 tons of greenhouse gas emissions can be saved on a yearly basis. The project is currently in the construction phase.
