IPCEIs are ambitious, cross-border, integrated projects, important due to their contribution to EU objectives while limiting potential competition distortions and ensuring positive spill-over effects for the internal market and the Union.
In December 2020, 22 EU countries and Norway signed a manifesto paving the way for a clean hydrogen value chain and committing to launch ‘important projects of common European interest’ (IPCEIs) in the hydrogen sector.
The Council of Ministers, at the proposal of the Ministry for Energy Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), has approved a Royal Decree for the granting of 74 million euros for the implementation of four renewable hydrogen projects in Spain, from the companies H2B2, SENER, Nordex and IVECO, which will mobilise a total investment of more than 245 million euro.
- “Tecnopropia” Project: development and manufacture of competitive electrolysers for the three main technologies: PEM, AEM and SOEC.
- Nordex Project: Development and creation of hydrogen production technology using electrolysers.
- Poseidon Initiative – IVECO: Development and production of hydrogen-powered heavy goods vehicles for regional and urban use.
- SENER Project: Manufacture of electrolysers to supply the Spanish market.
