The IPCEI-CIS’ main objective is the creation of an entirely new decentralised environment, which will enable software infrastructure for the advanced use of data processing resources from Cloud to Edge.
The integration of AI into safety-critical industrial applications creates new demands on cyber security and real-time performance. A previously unsolved challenge remains the automatic acknowledgement of safety devices.
The KIbSIS project (AI-based safety for industrial systems) addresses this gap by developing crypto-agile safety mechanisms combined with AI-based methods. At its core, KIbSIS delivers an AI-driven solution for the automatic acknowledgement of safety devices on machine tools. To ensure reliable operation, the project protects the AI itself and all related data flows within the factory network. This approach ensures that safety requirements and specifications for AIs and cybersecurity are fulfilled. AI-based anomaly detection identifies irregularities at an early stage and enables appropriate responses. A dedicated information architecture provides the foundation for this solution. In addition, the project advances quantum-resistant cryptography, developing post-quantum-secure algorithms deployed on secure physical components, along with migration strategies for future cryptographic transitions.
