Investments in projects of urban regeneration, aimed at reducing situations of marginalization and social degradation (Mission 5 – Component 2, Investment 4)
Italy’s Recovery and Resilience Plan provides for investments in urban regeneration, to reduce marginalization and social degradation as well as to improve the social and environmental context of urban centres. The measure aims at supporting the reuse and re-functionalization of public areas and existing public building structures for purposes of public interest, and at improving the urban landscape through renovation of public buildings, with particular attention to the development of social, cultural, educational and didactic services, including sporting activities.
The investment is financed by Italy’s Recovery and Resilience plan by EUR 2 billion.
As part of this investment, The project concerns the redevelopment of public areas in the Capici district of Adrano (CT), promoted by the local administration to enhance the quality and appearance of an urban area characterized by architectural degradation and limited infrastructure. The intervention aims to improve both the urban decorum and the management of stormwater, which currently causes flooding and water stagnation at key points such as Via Cusmano di Alcara Li Fusi and Via Eduardo De Filippo.
The works include the installation of drainage wells along the roadway to relieve the existing sewer network, alongside the maintenance and cleaning of existing but clogged catch basins. Although limited in scope, the project contributes to addressing a broader issue of stormwater management while focusing primarily on the local architectural and urban regeneration of the area.
The redevelopment also includes the creation of a pedestrian walkway with new iron fencing, benches, and tree planting to provide a small rest area. The intervention aims to revitalize a zone of notable natural and scenic value, enhancing its potential for future environmental and tourism-related development. This project is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Facility with EUR 814.040,00
