The investment project involves the construction of an underground heat pump plant that would produce both district heating and district cooling. The plant would have a district heating capacity of 90 MW and a district cooling capacity of 60 MW, generating approximately 300 GWh of district heat and 9 GWh of district cooling annually. The heat pumps would operate on renewable electricity and utilize a low-temperature wastewater stream from which heat has already been partially recovered at an existing heat pump facility. The produced heat and cooling energy would be supplied to Helsinki’s district heating and district cooling networks. The generated heat would primarily replace heat produced with fossil fuels.
