The project aims to gradually transform the Municipality of Volos into a ‘Smart City’ through the development of new infrastructure, digital platforms and IT systems.

The smart city solutions shall enable the use of technology, information and open data to improve city infrastructure and e-services, with the ultimate goal of improving citizens’ quality of life, promoting sustainability, and boosting the city’s competitiveness.

The project includes:

  • Smart pedestrian crossing and detection system
  • Smart IoT management system for irrigation devices and sensors in municipal parks
  • Smart system for real-time monitoring of building energy consumption
  • Energy automation systems in municipal buildings
  • Network of air quality monitoring stations
  • Smart solar benches
  • Smart solar trees
  • Digital platform for managing cultural and sports events
  • Smart City Platform with central management center and unified user access system
  • City Digital Twin
  • Cybersecurity and data assurance platform
  • Unified smart platform for volunteering, consultations, and citizen participation

The total budget amounts to €3,957,481, of which €3,191,517 is financed through the RRF contribution.
