The project aims to gradually transform the Municipality of Chalkida into a ‘Smart City’ through the development of new infrastructure, digital platforms and IT systems.

The smart city solutions shall enable the use of technology, information and open data to improve city infrastructure and e-services, with the ultimate goal of improving citizens’ quality of life, promoting sustainability, and boosting the city’s competitiveness.

The project includes:

  • Traffic Optimization: Implementation of controlled parking management systems, mobility information services, and smart pedestrian crossings.
  • Environmental Resource Management: Αpplications and systems for optimizing waste collection processes and supporting energy-saving initiatives.
  • Social Care and Health: Provision of telemedicine and remote care services, along with information systems that support social welfare and municipal care programs.
  • Citizens, Living, Employment, and Entrepreneurship: Creation of shared workspaces and digital platforms that foster new entrepreneurship, innovation, and civic engagement through interactive consultations and participatory decision-making processes.
  • Metropolitan Wireless Networks: Development of city-wide wireless networks and LoRaWAN infrastructure.
  • Central Information and Supervision Systems: Establishment of an integrated data management platform for the project, incorporating Building Information Modeling (BIM) and a Digital Twin of the city.

The total budget amounts to €2,970,000, of which €2,395,161 is financed through the RRF contribution.
