Investment in soft mobility (National Plan of Cycle Path) (Mission 2 – Component 2: Investment 4.1)
Italy’s Recovery and resilience Plan provides for the construction of at least 565 km of cycling lanes in metropolitan areas and at least 746 km of tourist cycle paths.
Cycle paths shall facilitate first-mile and last-mile commuting: connecting locations in metropolitan areas or universities to nearby railway or metro nodes. For this investment, the RRP provides EUR 467 million at the national level.
As part of this investment, the project “Enhancement of cycling mobility” consists in the creation of urban cycle paths connecting the railway station and the university in Trieste, identifying the most suitable and effective routes.
This is an intervention foreseen and planned within the Urban Sustainable Mobility Plan and the Biciplan of the Municipality, with the goal of encouraging cycling mobility also for home-school routes.
In this context, the connection to an intermodal hub such as the railway station allows students to complete their path from home to the University in a fast and sustainable way.
The project is articulated in three sections: the first one, geolocalized, is complete and in use; the others are under design phase.
The project is financed by Italy’s Recovery and Resilience plan by EUR 2.4 million.
