Digital Strategy and Platforms of Culture Heritage (Mission 1, Component 3, Investment 1.1)
Italy's Recover and Resilience Plan includes actions to digitise the Italian cultural heritage, as to improve access to cultural resources and digital services.
The intervention will create a new national digital infrastructure to collect, integrate and retain digital resources, making them available for public use through dedicated platforms.
Interventions on “physical” heritage will be accompanied by the digitisation of museums, archives, libraries and cultural sites, to enable citizens to explore new forms of benefitting from the cultural heritage.
The investment is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan with EUR 500 million.
The digitisation of the microfilms preserved at the National Center for the Study of the Manuscript (NCSM) is part of this investment.
The digitisation of this extraordinary collection, made up of approximately 107,000 microfilms relating to over 111,000 manuscripts belonging to approximately 200 public and private libraries, is among the strategic actions outlined in the National Plan for the Digitalisation of Cultural Heritage (PND), developed by the Ministry's Institute for the Digitalisation of Cultural Heritage - Digital Library, within the PNRR.
