This investment, which receives EUR 85 million from the Recovery and Resilience Facility, aims at designing and delivering new signalling system including ERTMS for the entire Finnish rail network.
The measures include establishing an ERTMS laboratory and a test track for developing an ETCS Baseline 3 system. In addition, a commercial pilot track section will be equipped with radio based ERTMS and ready for testing by Q2 2026.
On the pilot track section, the new system will be the only system used for commercial train traffic.
At this point, the test laboratory has been set up and successful tests have been completed in the laboratory. Furthermore, a test track section has been equipped with radio-based ERMTS.
The test track has enabled testing of the new ERTMS system under realistic conditions with the right equipment.
