The project “Development of Microsatellite Constellation” aims to strengthen the country’s capabilities in Earth observation and secure space communications.
It is part of a comprehensive national strategy to harness space technologies for supporting and optimizing natural-disaster management, environmental monitoring, civil protection and other vital state functions.
The project includes:
- Space Segment – the in-orbit infrastructure, covering the development, construction, launch, and operational deployment of a constellation of microsatellites
- Ground Segment – the ground infrastructure used for the operational control and management of the space segment, including the distribution and processing of data to the competent ground operational centers.
- Terrestrial Infrastructure Upgrades – improvements to existing ground facilities.
On Monday, 23 June 2025, the DUTHSat-2—the program’s first CubeSat satellite, supported by the European Space Agency (ESA)—was successfully launched. DUTHSat-2 will deliver imagery and measurements to provide information on soil moisture and marine pollution.
The launch took place from Vandenberg Space Force Base, USA, aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket as part of the Transporter-14 mission.
The mission’s success marks the beginning of a series of Greek microsatellite launches, that is a significant step for the country’s space program.
