Construction of New Schools through Building Replacement. (Mission 2 - Component 3 - Investment 1.1)
Italy’s Recovery and Resilience Plan provides for the progressive replacement of part of the building stock of public schools with the aim of creating modern and sustainable structures. The objectives of the interventions are the reduction of energy consumption, an increased seismic safety of buildings, and the development of green areas. The plan is expected to target 166 school buildings, with a total of 400 thousand m².
The investment is financed by Italy’s Recovery and Resilience plan by EUR 1 billion.
The project is part of this investment.
The decision to proceed with the demolition of the two existing school buildings and with the reconstruction in another building was made by the assessment of the high cost of adapting the buildings to the seismic standards, the rules on energy saving and the cost of rebuilding plants and interior fittings, also in view of the fact that in recent years the buildings subject to demolition have highlighted complex maintenance problems and difficult to solve.
From a performance point of view, the design of the new school building will focus on achieving high energy efficiency from an environmental point of view.
The main numbers of the project: 1,587 sqm of covered area of the buildings demolished 1,523 sqm of covered area of the new building in the project 2,300 sqm of total floor area 49 sqm of area for each new classroom 22 seats maximum capacity for each new room 364 sqm of panels photovoltaic.
The covered area of the new building is therefore less than the surface area of the buildings being demolished while the land consumption of the intervention is less than the land consumption before operam.
The project is a school building with two floors above ground, located in the southern part of the school complex, between the current gym and the border towards Piazzale Che Guevara, with an internal area of 2,500 square meters.
The building has a polygonal plan with central patio, designed to obtain a compact but articulated volume, faceted to offer different perspectives and to mitigate the perception of its size.
The new building will be innovative, open to the city, accessible and inclusive.
