The objective of the project is to renovate and revitalize sections of Črnomelj Castle and the old town center of Črnomelj, with a focus on enhancing public accessibility. A key aspect of this initiative involves the comprehensive renovation of the castle's ground floor, transforming it into an exhibition area that narrates the city's story and its surrounding environment.
The renovated rooms on the ground floor of Črnomelj Castle will host three immersive experiences, incorporating smart technology to vividly portray the historical significance of the noble von Tschernembl family. Through these interactive exhibits, visitors will be immersed in the rich narrative that highlights the importance of this influential family in the region.
The financial backing for this transformative project comes from the Recovery and Resilience Facility, contributing EUR 1.3 million to the overall project valued at EUR 2 million. The Ministry of Culture formalized its commitment by signing a co-financing contract with the Municipality of Črnomelj in December 2022. This collaborative effort underscores the shared vision of both national and local entities to restore and breathe new life into the cultural and historical gems of Črnomelj.
The anticipated completion date for the renovation of Črnomelj Castle and the old town center is by the end of 2025. Beyond the physical improvements, this project aims to create an engaging and accessible space that not only preserves the historical heritage of the area but also encourages public participation and appreciation for the cultural significance embedded in Črnomelj's history.
