The project involves the consolidation and restoration of the Byzantine Tower of Fonias, located at the northeastern end of the island of Samothraki, within the archaeological site of "Fonias".
Τhe Byzantine Tower remained in a ruined state after the collapse of its northwestern and southwestern sections on September 2017, due to heavy rainfall.
The scope of the project is:
- To stabilize, restore and open to the public the Byzantine Tower of Fonias
- To highlight its historical and architectural significance
- To ensure the structural stability and aesthetic preservation of the monument
- To ensure visitor access and safety through the construction of ladders, exits and railings
- To implement documentation and publicity actions that will enhance the understanding and promotion of the monument.
