Caput Mundi: Promotion of guided tours through digitisation by supporting a thematic, informative and scientific APP dedicated to the 1942 Rome Universal Exhibition (EUR)

  • Project

Caput Mundi Next Generation EU for touristic great events (Mission 1, Component 3, Investment 4.3)

Italy’s Recovery and Resilience Plan increases the number of accessible tourist sites in Rome, creating valid and qualified tourist and cultural alternatives with respect to the crowded central areas, as well as increasing the use of digital technologies, enhance green areas and the sustainability of tourism. The investment envisages six lines of interventions:
1. “Roman Cultural Heritage for EU-Next Generation”, covering the regeneration and restoration of cultural and urban heritage and complexes of high historical-architectural value of the city of Rome;
2. “Jubilee paths” (from pagan to Christian Rome), targeted to the enhancement, safety, anti-seismic consolidation, restoration of places and buildings of historical interest and archaeological pathways;
3. #LaCittàCondivisa, covering the redevelopment of sites in peripheral areas;
4. #Mitingodiverde, covering interventions on parks, historical gardens, villas and fountains;
5. #Roma 4.0, covering the digitalization of cultural services and the development of apps for tourists;
6. #Amanotesa, aimed at increasing the supply of cultural offer to peripheries for social integration.

The investment is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Facility by EUR 500 million and includes this project.
This project offers a unique immersive experience of archaeological sites, using augmented reality, 3D rendering, and georeferenced virtual reality. By integrating these directly into screens and viewing devices, visitors can virtually explore the detailed, original appearance of these places. This innovative digital solution enhances understanding of our historical and cultural heritage, offering new ways for tourists to connect with the past. This project is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Facility with EUR 95000. The development of a mobile, thematic application is being studied to include both the “Classical Rome” and “Christian Rome” itineraries to offer an “educational browsing experience” on the history, architecture, vegetation and environmental aspects of the district.
The project entails the installation of informative dashboards with QR codes to allow visitors to access graphical documents, texts and audiovisual content, creating an immersive experience. The application will provide narrative and thematic itineraries, such as the ‘i giardini dei colori’ (the gardens of colours) and the ‘passeggiata dei ciliegi’ (the cherry-tree promenade), alongside inclusive and multisensory routes.
The tourist App dedicated to “Modern Rome in the EUR” is linked with the main tourist routes of Roma Capitale. Visitors will receive valuable information and targeted notifications based on their location, as well as access to scheduled event details. Tourists will be able to see the points of interest on a map, consult an ordered list based on location, conduct a guided search, access descriptions and reviews, and interact with the places of interest.
The application is intended to increase tourism to the EUR and promote the area by providing easy and direct access to key information.
