Caput Mundi: Largo Talamo Tomb - restoration of marble elements and external features

Caput Mundi Next Generation EU for touristic great events (Mission 1, Component 3, Investment 4.3)

Italy’s Recovery and Resilience Plan increases the number of accessible tourist sites in Rome, creating valid and qualified tourist and cultural alternatives with respect to the crowded central areas, as well as increasing the use of digital technologies, enhance green areas and the sustainability of tourism. The investment envisages six lines of interventions:
1. “Roman Cultural Heritage for EU-Next Generation”, covering the regeneration and restoration of cultural and urban heritage and complexes of high historical-architectural value of the city of Rome;
2. “Jubilee paths” (from pagan to Christian Rome), targeted to the enhancement, safety, anti-seismic consolidation, restoration of places and buildings of historical interest and archaeological pathways;
3. #LaCittàCondivisa, covering the redevelopment of sites in peripheral areas;
4. #Mitingodiverde, covering interventions on parks, historical gardens, villas and fountains;
5. #Roma 4.0, covering the digitalization of cultural services and the development of apps for tourists;
6. #Amanotesa, aimed at increasing the supply of cultural offer to peripheries for social integration.

The investment is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Facility by EUR 500 million and includes this project.
The Largo Talamo Tomb restoration project focuses on cleaning the marble cladding and painting iron elements to preserve its historical and artistic integrity. Using specialized methods, materials, and expert professionals, the work aims to restore the tomb’s original appearance and protect its metal components from corrosion, ensuring long-lasting preservation and enhancement. This project is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Facility with EUR 357000. Overall, the project for the conservative restoration and enhancement of the Largo Talamo Tomb focuses on cleaning the marble of the external cladding and painting the iron elements. These activities are essential for preserving the historical and artistic integrity of the tomb, maintaining its original beauty over the long term. Dedicated methods, materials, and expertise, following best practices in the field, will ensure an accurate and high-quality restoration that further enhances this important complex. Cleaning the marble on the external cladding will involve the use of specialized methods and materials to remove dirt, deposits, and pollutants accumulated over time, restoring the tomb’s original appearance and highlighting its architectural features. Additionally, the iron elements will be painted to protect them from atmospheric agents and corrosion, preserving their integrity and functionality. Specific metal paints will be selected based on the elemental characteristics and environmental conditions to guarantee effective and long-lasting protection. To carry out the restoration and enhancement of the tomb, a qualified team of professionals specialized in architectural restoration will be involved.
