The Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital (OLOL) Pathfinder Decarbonisation Programme is one of 8 national pilot sites and will form part of a total REPowerEU investment of €48 million to advance large‑scale energy efficiency and decarbonisation works across the acute healthcare estate.
• At OLOL, the programme will deliver deep energy retrofit measures across key blocks retained under the DCP, including new centralised heat pump infrastructure, upgraded mechanical and electrical systems, district heating opportunities, and significant fabric enhancements to reduce reliance on steam and fossil‑fuel‑based services.
• This investment will support improved operational performance and resilience for future redevelopment phases, including the Acute Bed Programme, and aims to achieve at least a 30% reduction in primary energy use. The learnings and data generated from OLOL, as one of the national pilot sites, will inform the design of future healthcare decarbonisation initiatives and accelerate the transition to renewable energy solutions across the wider HSE portfolio.
